Deva Curl Training and more...

Sorry I've been away I've had guests for 2 weeks and so now I'm getting back to my blog. How are you all doing? Congrats to our winner of the Sally's Card. I'm so excited...I'm going to this BIG hair show here on the West Coast and they are going to have Deva Curl there and other companies like Paul Mitchell, TIGI, Wahl, Joico, OPI, Satin Smooth, Shellac Nails, Ardell lashes and much much more. I can't wait because there are certifications that I can pick up in these classes they are offering there. I'm always excited when there is a chance where I can improve my skills. I'm looking forward to the Deva Curl training because I've actually been looking into their products. I'm not totally convinced with their method of no cones. Knowing what I know this isn't going to work for everyone because when someone have color in their hair they will need cones to close down those cuticles more. I don't know if you all realize it or not but when you get a chemical including haircolor is blast your cuticle wide open therefore giving you an higher pH on that hair and when its a permanent color it's a permanent change until the color grows out. My point in saying that is nothing is going to close that cuticle no matter if you put a conditioner up there that is 4.5-5.5 range (hair, skin, and nails normal pH) because the color keeps the cuticle raised but what cones do is temporary closes that cuticle so you can keep your hair some what in tact and it allow the moisture you put in your hair stay in your hair. When the pH of your hair is high your hair is also more porous meaning the amount that hair can absorb and keep in whether it's moisture or anything else. So if you have very porous hair you can absorb alot of moisture but the problem is you can lose alot of it too because your cuticles are too open and can't keep the moisture in and that works with anything you put in your hair like hair color too. Notice your color fade quickly your hair might be too porous. I'm not completely convinced by the no poo method either. Again knowing what I know we need to clean our hair thoroughly and sometimes we need to clarify meaning strip the hair of everything to actually gain natural shine back that all the gunk took away. With that being said...the no poo method don't seem to work with that. I tried the no poo shampoo and it felt like I was just using conditioner and believe it or not too much conditioner can be bad for the hair too over periods of time. I'm not an advocate of the no poo method it doesn't make sense to me because those sulfates are actually what's getting your hair clean and that's what your hair and scalp needs. I guess I will find out what it's all about when I go on the 10th and 11th of April!

  1. Thanks for the congrats! ...I agree with you about using shampoo. I tried co-washing only, but I soon had to change that. I'm using Paul Mitchell Clarifying Shampoo 2 at the moment, just once in a while or when I feel I need to shampoo. ...Good luck at the hair show!

  2. Is this Cosmoprof in San Jose? If so, I'm going as well. I went last year and the year before and I must say, it is nice to finally see a curl focused vendor there (even if some times I have to give Deva the side eye). The only stuff they had for curly folks in the past were relaxers and clippers.
